Fear of Failing Publicly 2: The OLOVA Music App

We sold our dream and Olova like our lives dependant on it. We really believed it would change lives for Zimbabwean artists and consumers alike. We were aiming for a culture shift more than anything else. Musicians who had been our idols when we chased music sat across from us and bought into our dream and into our culture change theory.

Fear of Failing Publicly 1: NUST Winter Invitational

I learnt at a school where failure wasn’t much of an option. If you failed you would always prefer to fail in private. BIG HAIRY AUDACIOUS GOALS. In short, don’t aim for something easy. That’s what we did. We put the business plan together, pretty detailed and several online templates put together

10 More Startup Terms You Should Know

So I did a similar article on startup terms last year and it seemed to be something that interested a lot of people. I then realised that we all want to sound smart. Either that or we’re tired of not understanding the panel questions when we watch Dragon’s Den or Shark Tank. Also, these terms […]

Bravo Tours No longer the Bus of Choice

Then the breakdowns started happening. Every other Bravo trip now seems to have a break down. Sadly, being Zimbabwean I am almost compelled to forgive them for the break downs and say zvinowanikwa (these things happen), but that’s not true. When you are a luxury coach these things don’t happen. If I wanted a trip riddled by breakdowns and forced recesses on roadsides I would have woken up and gone to Mbare or Renkini. I would have gotten on a $30 bus and not a an $80 one.

10 Startup Terms You Should Know

Alright, it’s the startup era. It is no longer embarrassing to call yourself an entrepreneur. Aren’t we glad the 90s are a thing of the past? Now you can drop out of school, determined to make it on your own and the world won’t judge you. Millennials everywhere are motivated by silicon valley and we […]

AirBnB is Amazing for Zim but…

Airbnb in Zimbabwe

There is a huge opportunity for Airbnb to make reasonable revenues from the Zimbabwean market. Especially during conference times where one doesn’t want the hassle of making multiple calls and get their hearts broken multiple times by overly friendly front desk managers at fully booked lodgings. I would much prefer a situation where I can just find available places on Airbnb or a similar platform really. I am not a fan of copying services that work in the first world and pasting them into our unique Zimbabwean situation but this can work.

You Can start any of these 19 businesses with iPhone X Money

So the iPhone X (ten) came out last year, boasting face recognition and a bunch of other features that won’t seem as nice when you’re intoxicated. The iPhone lover will appreciate it as a great phone, this I know because a large percentage of iSheep (serial Apple gadget cultists) who bought the iPhone 8 wanted to […]

How Zimbabwean Startups Are Incorrectly Borrowing VC Funding Concepts

The Silicon Valley bug was bound to hit Zimbabwe sooner than later. It is very good because it means that Zimbabweans are finally realizing that startups are the future. As Zimbabwe, I have noticed that we seem to be incorrectly borrowing the Silicon Valley startup funding model. I know Zimbabweans love doing things their own […]
